WHY BETH
MY MUNICIPAL EXPERIENCE
Pivoting on projects and expenses to maintain staff and basic needs during COVID.
COVID restrictions, requirements and general health and safety concerns negatively impacted our city in a variety of ways. Remote work requirements for city staff, court and council delayed and, in some instances cancelled, permits; infrastructure planning and delivery; legal actions and decisions; annual community events and a myriad of necessary daily tasks. Our police officers and city code and engineers faced new and difficult processes around community engagement. And, with the shutdown or reduction of area businesses, our important sales tax revenue took a big hit.
Our mayor and council proactively trimmed the operating budget to maintain crucial city services and to keep our equally crucial staff. Additional work with Travis County to procure available CARES Act funds supported our police and other health needs without drawing from the city budget. We were even able to share extra CARES dollars with the Eanes ISD.
